COUPLES

Distressed partners may use different words but they are always asking the same basic questions, ‘Are you there for me? Do I matter to you? Will you come when I need you, when I call?’ Love is the best survival mechanism there is, and to feel suddenly emotionally cut off from a partner, disconnected, is terrifying.
- Sue Johnson

Many couples come to couples therapy because they're dealing with a specific challenge, such as communication issues, difficulties around sex, affairs, or considering a breakup. At core,  it's about helping couples get unstuck from painful dynamics that keep getting repeated.

Couples counselling might possibly be one of the most difficult and scary things to do, but it also might be one of the most important steps you ever take.  How do you even know if couples counselling will help? You and your partner might benefit from couples counseling if you are:

  • finding that you have some patterns that leave you feeling unsatisfied with your relationship

  • having a similar argument repeatedly, no matter what it is about

  • feeling unheard, unseen and unloved by your partner

  • difficulty resolving conflict

  • longing for connection, closeness and a sense of belonging with your partner

  • feeling alone, unsupported or unappreciated by your partner

  • feeling criticized or blamed by your partner

  • feeling like your relationship has become just about managing life

  • feeling like your grown apart as a couple

  • difficulty managing changes in your lives together

  • not sure you see the same future together anymore

Investing in your relationship might be the best investment you ever make.
