ABOUT US
Welcome to our clinic, where we believe in the power of relationships and the profound impact they have on our well-being. At the Cochrane Counselling Centre, we are dedicated to providing compassionate and effective therapy services that are rooted in attachment, somatic, experiential and trauma-based theories.
Our Approach: At the Cochrane Counselling Centre, we understand that our past experiences shape who we are today. That's why we specialize in attachment and trauma-based therapy, which focuses on creating a safe and nurturing therapeutic relationship to help clients heal from past traumas and improve overall wellbeing. We also believe that people are all doing the best that they can. We work to understand and contextualize, rather than to pathologize behaviours, thoughts, reactions and emotions.

Our Team: Our team of experienced and licensed therapists are passionate about helping people (families, parents, children, teens, couples and seniors) navigate their emotional challenges and improve their overall quality of life. Our therapists work collaboratively with clients to create a customized treatment plan that meets their unique needs. We have assembled a team that can work with people across the lifespan and can help with most presenting issues. We are a one stop shop for you and your family.

Our Philosophy: At the core of our clinic is a belief in the transformative power of relationships, starting with the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. We strive to create a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel supported, understood, and empowered to make positive changes in their lives. Through evidence-based therapies, we help our clients heal, grow, and thrive.

FAQs
Where are you located? We are located in Sunset Landing. We are on the second floor of the 3000 building. You can find the entrance to the building beside the Crowfoot Liquor store.
Do you direct bill? Yes, we provide direct billing to Alberta Blue Cross, Greenshield, Calgary Police Service and Blue Cross Medavive.
What is involved in a free 15 minute consult? This free 15 minute consult is an opportunity to meet your potential therapist and to figure out if it is a fit. You are looking for a a therapist with the experience and skills that meet your specific needs. You are also looking for a therapist that has a style that will help you to feel comfortable. While you can provide some background information, this is not the time to have an in-depth conversation about the issues. That will happen in your first session when you have a full hour. The consult call is also not a crisis call.
How does billing work? You will be asked to provide your credit card to add to your file. This card will be saved and protected with our billing partner, Stipe. Once added to the file, the clinic can not access your credit card information. Unless you have made arrangements for direct billing or for EMT, your credit card will be billed after your session. You will be e-mailed a receipt with all relevant information and you can submit this to your insurance company.
What can I expect in my first session? In the first session your therapist will review consent and policy, such as cancellation policy, privacy/confidentiality and risks and benefits of therapy. We will also confirm and obtain billing information. The first session is used to gather background information about your situation and the issues that bring you in for therapy. If time permits, the therapist will discuss a treatment plan with you, including frequency of sessions and treatment modalities.
What is Attachment Theory? Attachment theory is a fundamental element in therapy as it provides a framework for understanding how our early relationships and attachments shape our emotional and relational patterns throughout life. Developed by psychologist John Bowlby, attachment theory highlights the significance of the bond between infants and their primary caregivers in influencing emotional development and well-being. In therapy, understanding a client's attachment style can provide valuable insights into their interpersonal struggles, emotional responses, and coping mechanisms. By exploring past attachment experiences and patterns, therapists can help clients make connections between their early relationships and their current challenges, ultimately fostering self-awareness and promoting healing. Attachment-based therapy focuses on creating a safe and secure therapeutic relationship that mirrors a healthy attachment bond. Through empathetic attunement, support, and validation, therapists help clients develop a sense of security and trust, enabling them to explore difficult emotions, build healthier relationships, and work towards personal growth. By addressing attachment issues in therapy, clients can increase their self-understanding, improve their emotional regulation, and cultivate more fulfilling and supportive relationships. Ultimately, recognizing and healing attachment wounds can lead to greater resilience, emotional well-being, and overall satisfaction in life.
