FAMILY
Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible - the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family. - Virginia Satir
Family therapy helps family members understand each other and work through difficult feelings in a safe space. This type of therapy focuses on improving the interactions and communication between family members.
Family dynamics can be complicated and at times painful. Family therapy is one way to try and improve the quality of those dynamics. If your family has challenges and could use help with:
-
increase bonding, trust and harmony
-
reducing conflict
-
improve communication
-
manage concerning behaviour (acting out, substance use)
-
recovering from serious events, accidents or deaths
-
mental health concerns
-
life changes
-
caregiving for a family member with health concerns or an aging family member
Note: Some families, specifically those dealing with high conflict divorce, may request support outside of scheduled sessions. To ensure that the therapist's time is honoured and sustainable, any work completed outside of session will be billed in 15-minute increments. This includes time spent reading and responding to emails, consulting by phone, and preparing written documentation. We are committed to being transparent about these practices and will always aim to communicate clearly about any additional time and associated fees.
